Concept master plan competition for Jamshedpur, a city developed by the Tata Corporation in the early 20th century for steel production. The objective of the master plan was to enhance the attractiveness of the city to attract and retain talent for the steel industry, but also improve residents’ quality of life and increase opportunities for diversification of the economy.

Waters Economics, working with the lead architects, provided a vision, as well as an economic and spatial strategy and an implementation plan for the city based on the concept of an Eco2 Smart City. This innovative concept combined economic growth and ecologically sustainable development objectives.

Through our established policy and asset evaluation process, Waters Economics identified the city’s competitive advantages and regional positioning, which provided the basis of the master plan’s unique concept and development direction.
